Supervisory Skills Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Supervisory Skills - Research Paper Example The leader will act as a mentor, coach and teacher to gain support for meeting productive outcomes and performance targets. â€Å"Authentic relationships evolve over time† (Starnes, Truhon & McCarthy, 2010, p.5). Motivational problems can be overcome through more visible interaction in the management environment and by allowing decentralized decision-making to occur where solutions are provided horizontally rather than top-down. This will improve a sense of social belonging and remove layers of power distance that can de-motivate and also improve the self-esteem that leads to better enthusiasm in job role function. The long-term plan hinges on success in using transformational leadership design to gain commitment and improve motivation. Once establishing the foundation of a positive corporate culture built on knowledge-sharing and team function, as well as emphasis on human resources development, the Quality Control department will undergo sweeping changes related to total quality management. Each director will utilize a balanced scorecard to measure individual performance and the performance of production as well as research and development, which will be reported to the VP. The total quality management approach will consist of the Delphi Method, a qualitative forecasting tool involving multiple stakeholders in which solutions are brainstormed recurrently until new processes or systems needed for improvement are identified (Rowe & Wright, 1999). The Delphi Method will improve relationship development among colleagues, improve knowledge transfer, and open the doors for innovation by providing multitudes of solutions to improve quality and performance in each director’s division. This will further emphasize cultural development and improve competitive advantage in human capital among competing firms in this industry. Reorganization is required only in the factory line, which must be

Comparing Karl Marxes view on capitalisum to Michael Moores view in Essay

Comparing Karl Marxes view on capitalisum to Michael Moores view in his movie Roger and Me - Essay Example The GM has played a major role to the people living in the area and surrounding economically, spiritually and even culturally. Due to this influence when the board of directors decides to close its factories in Flint people are left in despair. The company’s closure translates to a total of 30,000 losses of jobs. The workers are left frustrated especially because the company doesn’t close due to financial difficulties but rather because of a bigger deal in Mexico. GM decides to close shop in the USA and open in Mexico because it will cut on labor costs which are reasonably cheap. The board is not hesitant in their decision considering the many workers who will lose their jobs in the process; this brings out imperialism of the highest order in our society today. In a society which is highly capitalized the board of GM is only concerned with making more profits without considering the plight of its employees who in one way or another have contributed to the success of the company for a long time. The sad contrast is while the CEO of GM made $2million in this new deal 30,000 employees are left jobless and their lives destroyed by a company whose interest is greed. The union of the employees doesn’t help either because it has a common interest with the management of GM. The closure of the factories in Flint leads to an up rise in many negative processes: a lot of people leave town in search of new jobs, the living conditions of the people worsen due to lack of employment, spread of illness due to high poverty levels in the town. In the film people are evicted because they cannot be able to pay their rents anymore. The crime rate also goes up because everybody is fighting for the available constrained basic needs like clothing and food. In his film Moore remarks that the number of prisoners goes up than the prison cell. The economy of Flint hits its down low and it’s declared as the capital of unemployment, the media observes that it†™s the worst place anyone can live in the United States. Companies like GM should look at the effects of their actions in favor of capitalism. Growth is a definite goal for any company in the world today but that should be in line with economic growth of all aspects because no company operates in a vacuum there are factors to be considered like the employees. Capitalism can be defined as a system which is prone to crisis. It’s influenced by factors which make it unstable and destructive. Today’s society is depicted by unstable stock markets, rampant layoff and unemployment, scandals in companies and power failures. For instance US are faced with the highest job loss in history. All this recessions and unstable markets are caused by capitalism. According to Marx and Engels in the communist manifesto, historically class was a struggle, â€Å"a fight that each time ended, either in revolutionary reconstitution of society at large or in the common ruin of the contending classes† (Marx and Engel). This led to poverty and inequality. This raises a need for socialism which could not only end inequality and poverty but also reduce economic and social problems associated with a system which is capitalistic. In Marx’s view capitalism is an act of corporations taking a surplus labor from its workers. In the communist manifesto he observes that the bourgeoisie who were capitalists exploited the proletariat

Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest Essay Example for Free

Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest Essay 1. What does the play say about marriage? The play says many things about marriage.   One is that marriage can be quite complicated when there is deceit even if the feelings involved are genuine.   Another is that there are so many trivial things that society considers â€Å"important† that disregards the true meaning of marriage.   Another is that parental consent and money still play an important role in matrimony. 2. What is the significance of the names? The word Earnest means sincere. However, the play showed how that sincerity is downplayed by the many trivial things that society expects from individuals.    Ms. Prism’s name is also significant because it was her character that finally shed light on the true background of Jack – who later became truly Earnest. 3. Suggest some of the things that Wilde is poking fun at in this play. Wilde made fun of the way women can be so assuming of relationships as can be seen with Cecily’s account of how she and Algy became engaged and how Gwendolyn fled from her mother to go to Jack.   The author also made fun of the way society can be deceived by many aspects of a person beside his true self (e.g. names and money).   This was especially evident in the way the name Earnest became so important that Algy and Jack had wanted to be re-baptized with it. Marriage was also funny because it gave too much importance on money and family background before it considers the true person. 4. What is your favorite character and why? I loved the character of Ms. Prism because at first she seemed to be only a minor character but in the end, the story actually centered on her misgivings.

Symbolism in The Great Gatsby Essay -- Classic American Literature

The Great Gatsby is one of the most renowned books known to mankind. A story about a man’s quest to fit into a society built for the rich whilst wooing a childhood crush may seem extremely simple and straightforward, however, the mystery is not behind the plot, but rather, it is in the writing itself. The words F. Scott Fitzgerald used were chosen with such delicacy, one cannot even hope to assume that anything was a mere coincidence. The book is laced with intricate strands of symbolism bound together by a single plot. One of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s more major themes is the use of locations. The importance of location as symbols are further expressed through the green light at the end of the dock as well as the fresh, green breast of the new world. The green light at the end of the dock has symbolized a hope that Gatsby had. The green light was a light at the end of Daisy’s dock. In the beginning of the book, Gatsby was shown staring at the light with a longing expression. It shows that the green light is a symbol of Gatsby’s hope that Daisy is still available. The green li...

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was a civil rights organization that consisted of mainly African-Americans and was closely connected to its founder, Martin Luther King Junior. This organization played a very significant role in the American civil rights by enforcing peaceful direct action to stop the legal and social discernment against the black Americans. The organization through the support of their very powerful leader Luther King Junior organized and funded a lot of demonstrations in the 1950s and 1960s. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Civil Rights Movement" essay for you Create order Although the organization lost its impact after the assassination of the King in 1968, the SCLC did not stop its operations but continued working to better the lives of African Americans. The SCLC arose back in 1955 after black Americans in Montgomery, Alabama successfully boycotted bus services which led to the United States Supreme Court upholding the integration of those buses (Fairclough, Adam (85). An African American social activist Bayard Rustin who desired to carry the Montgomery win to the South prodded Martin Luther and his team to form the Southern Negro Leaders Conference in 1957 during a meeting in Atlanta. Since the King had gained popularity as a leader of Montgomery Improvement Association, he was given the role to lead this organization as well which was the precursor of the SCLC. The SCLC looked forward to carrying out Gandhi an, peaceful direct action protest matches all over the South hoping that they will bring to the end racial discrimination, voting right be granted to the blacks among other advantages. They also wanted to transfer the civil rights proceedings from the court chambers to the society wishing to talk directly to the white Americans to end the racism and bring about social changes. The first action before the protest was to lead a prayer journey to Washington, D.C in 1957 that attracted more than 25 thousand people. In 1959, it planned a protest march to the Washington D.C that was attended by an approximated fifty thousand youths. Though SCLC was having very successful protests but it was in a weak position due to the poor organization during its first years. It had challenges trying to achieve its objectives, especially in voter registration. Its success began to show later in the 1960s after they hired leaders like Andrew J. Young and Bishop Wyatt T. Walker. The organization continued to recruit more members of staff and they had improved from five to sixty-five staff members between 1960 and 1964, and the union influence on the civil rights movement reached its peak. The SCLCs advancements gave it the chance to organize historic demonstrations that played an essential duty in the public rights movement. The organization in 1963 led demonstrations and boycotts in Birmingham, Alabama, that aimed at ending the police brutality. During the protests, those watching televisions in the United States were shocked to witness how the police brutally engaged very peaceful protestors which led to many questions among States residents. SCLC was able to win the peoples sympathy nationwide which motivated them to carry out another civil right demonstration in Selma in 1965 where the police still directed violence to the non-violent protestors; this attracted a very violent demonstration response from the whites. These demonstrations are widely accredited with quickening the signing of the 1964 civil rights act, the voting rights act in 1965 as well as laws that finally allowed the black Americans freedoms they had been wishing for. In the mid-1960s, SCLC members and other African Americans started to doubt whether the ongoing peaceful direct action would ever bring about the required changes in their society. Some major civil rights organizations like the student nonviolent organizing committee and the assembly of racial equality went ahead and publicly announced that SCLC will no longer hold nonviolent protests. They cried against the poverty and the racial discrimination the African Americans were going through in the northern cities, they claimed that whatever the SCLC was doing did not help in the urban ghetto. Luther King and his members of staff were very thoughtful of such condemnation; they immediately diverted their attention to the northern regions and by 1967, they had launched several new organizations there. These Civil rights movements included the Chicago Freedom Movement, Poor Peoples Campaign and the Operation Bread-basket. These movements were led by young leaders like theology student leader called Jesse Jackson. SCLC was interested in addressing the poverty that was affecting the black Americans in the inner city ghettoes. They were worried that African Americans violence in the inner cities was losing control and they accused poverty as the root cause. Most of the residents had turned into crime as a way of meeting their basic wants since blacks were not allowed in the white companies. SCLC thought by creating jobs they would solve the problems and improve their lives as well. It was lack of jobs and poverty in ghettoes that forced many blacks to join radical movements whose main objective were to get rid of the government leaders while the SCLC acted as the main support. The assassination of the King in 1968 was a major blow to the organization because he was the SCLC. Southern Christian Leadership Conference civil right movement under the leadership of Martin Luther King Junior has a lot of everlasting importance to the African Americans and the United States as well. The big March to the Washington where King gave his ?I have a dreamspeech was a very significant occasion as it put pressure on the government to change some laws. In his speech, he expressed his desires that racial discrimination would end in the nation making it free for the Blacks to mix freely with Whites and both have equal rights too (Garrow, D. J (45-51). He wanted a country where children were not judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character. After the assassination of President Kennedy, Johnson took over the leadership and passed the civil rights bill. During this time the King was still the president of SCLC so it was a victory enjoyed by the whole movement not him alone. Up to date, African Americans enjoy same rights as the whites without any viol ence or discrimination. Back in 1962, SCLC diverted its focus from just fighting racism to campaigning against the issues of economic inequality. The organization believed that poverty was the main cause of social discrimination and they created the Operation Breadbasket that was based in Atlanta to create employment to the African American (Chong, Dennis (90). This program began to spread to other areas like Chicago in 1996 which made it gain popularity. After one year, another program called the poor peoples campaign was created mainly to bring many poor people together so they can march to Washington and ask for federal legislation that would provide income, jobs as well as houses for the discriminated people of all ethnicities. After the King was assassinated, the new president Ralph Abernathy led a group of people who camped for 11 days outside Washington D.C. all these were attained after the civil rights were passed by President Johnson who took over after the death of Kennedy. Another accomplishment by the SCLC was after the pressured they issued to the government until the Black were allowed to take part in the voting exercise. They held a campaign called the crusade for citizenship that was sparked by civil rights bill pending in the Congress. The campaign main goal was to register many marginalized voters before the 1960 the voting year; they also took the chance to educate potential voters. SCLC was still joined by other civil rights movements in their campaigns in the south, most particularly in Georgia, Selma, Florida, and Albany. The conspicuousness of SCLC fight for rights led to the passage of the voting rights act in the year 1965. Its president Martin Luther King made America a proud nation with his leadership skills and sacrificing so much for the people. He created the American dream which everybody wishes to achieve and there is even a national holiday named after him. Work cited Fairclough, Adam. Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost Essay - 670 Words

Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost Robert Frost is describing a process in Mending Wall, which is repairing a wall that separates his territory and his neighbors. The wall was deteriorated during the winter, when the cold frost created cracks and gaps in the wall. He uses a nearly infantile imagination to unravel the mystery of the damage that appeared suddenly in spring. While they are tediously laboring to reconstruct the fence, Frost is imploring his neighbor about the use of the wall; his apple trees can be clearly distinguished from his neighbors pine trees. Yet underneath this quotidian routine, Frost goes beyond the surface to reveal its figurative meaning. The poem renders an apparent question: Why do†¦show more content†¦He also uses other devices such as a pun, applied in the line, And to whom I was like to give offence. The last word of the line simply emphasizes the importance of the subject, the fence. The most prominent figure of speech, however, is the ironic, Good fences make good neighbors. This is completely opposite of the connotation of the poem. Fences do not make neighbors, but strangers that are apathetic towards each other. The neighbor seems to prefer this approach, to eliminate any risks of trespassing or offenses. Yet what the fence really does is hinder the development of friendship. This is comparable to the barriers of bitterness, anger, hate, and fear men put between one another that obstruct love and friendship. The poet also used imagery to appeal to the senses. The puzzling force that abhors the wall sends the frozen-ground-swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun.Show MoreRelatedAnalysis Of Robert Frost s The Mending Wall 1311 Words   |  6 PagesIn Robert Frost the Mending Wall it is about the obligation of boundaries and the deceiving influences employed to abolish them.
